I was not aware that I broke a rule. I read some of the other blogs and thought this is in the same vein. Now what? MS

Damn. Exactly what I was going to say... down to the letter. So I shall repeat with different words to those listening:
Apple makes pennies on the iTMusicS (the story might be different for shows and games). Some people want to own an iPod, but don't want to pay iTS store prices or use their $0.99/song, end of story, model. Solution: buy mp3, d/l mp3 illegally, buy FairPlay elsewhere. With exception of Real Harmony, the last option has not existed.
Where Apple makes the money is iPod sales. HUGE money. However, Apple can't promote the three aforementioned options outright, not when it has the largest FairPlay (and altogether) legal music d/l store on the 'net. So the only thing they can do is not dissuade people from using the other options... forcefully, at least. All I remember Apple saying about Real Harmony was "they're hackers with questionable methods," or something like that.
As Mr. Green said, the only risk I would see is if others tried to make a FairPlay compatible "mp3" player. I wouldn't see it going places unless sync'd with iTunes or a different phenominal jukebox. Thus, Apple likely writes that possibility off as someone else "pulling a Zune."
hehe. We don't even know how the zune will do in reality but we love to pick on it here. I must be on a Mac Forum. :p

Wow! "Does not make more than a few pennies." I do not think either of you appreciate the power of small numbers, when multiplied by millions of transactions and time. Soap companies have understood this for several hundred years, clearly Apple understands it as well. The individual unit profit on iPods is clearly higher, but each iPod sold acts as a multiplier of where the real money is made. What a dream to earn just one half of one cent of every iTunes purchase. If globally they sell a million songs a day, I'd receive $5k a day or $1,825,000 a year.

I too will be very disappointed if the scroll wheel disappears from the iPod.
I am also quite skeptical about this 'bezel-touch' idea. That's where I hold the damn thing. I can't pick up my phone without changing the ring tone level now my iPod will scroll to a new track or shoot up in volume.
No thanks.
Errm. Cant you lock your keys on your moby then. Surely there would be a hold button like current iPods that will disable the bezel.

Vylen, I think you're right about the bad cable.
I've systematically connected my one working DP/miniDP cable to this new monitor, and alone, it starts up.
I've tried the same thing with the DVI cable that I know works, and same thing, this monitor starts up fine.
So I know all three monitors are working. I'm going to try to get a different cable (DP/mini-DP) and will see if all three work together.
I'll report back. In the meantime, thanks for the advice.

OK, am I the only one who thought that this was about World of Warcraft?
Looks like it :)
I think "Wow!" every time I pass my hand over my Cube to wake it up or put it to sleep. And the G3 Powerbook still wows me as a piece of design. All my ex-Macs get passed on to my kids.

You need to add Joe Smith to your address book and then you will be able to pull him up by name. What it's doing now is pulling up previously used email addresses. You can right click on the email address in the "To:" field and add to address book.

I don't know anything about ATA passwords, but one of the expected new features of Lion is whole disk encryption. You might as well wait for that and get it free with the OS and supported by Apple.

how would i go about bouncing the click to it's own audio track?
I could be wrong, but I don't think you can. Logic's term for "bounce" is "freeze". But as I and one other said above, you can make a drum track that is just one hit per beat on something that sounds good to you, like a wood block or whatever. Then of course you can end that when ever you like

oh ya, could someone explain what they mean by "gapless playback"?
On CDs (or any other physical recording) sometimes artists have one song run right into another - you know it's changed because you're familiar with it or you happen to look up at the CD track counter and see it go from 3 to 4 but the music hasn't stopped. Digital tracks had a bad side effect of putting a break between tracks. Gapless apparently knows when the original recording intended no gap and then replicates that on the iPod / iTunes replay. This breakthrough also available on cassette tape.

I can't believe 3G is new for the Americans.
Land of the free indeed....:p
Yep, free to use a phone as a phone. I travel a lot to Europe and therefore do have T-mobile for GSM compatibility but overall the main difference I find is cultural - in the US many many more people use the phone as a phone only, which is my preference as well. I want a very small phone and therefore there is no way I would use the screen and/or keypad for anything but a phone. 3G has no real appeal for me and the cost of phone service in Europe I now find attrociously expensive, even if I get local sims. It is so expensive to call between countries. I assume this is to support 3G/WAP/etc. for which I have no use.

ok...
after a long break, i'm starting to get back up to speed. will be adding another new OctoMacPro and a Core2Duo iMac this week...
m
Well if you can run the SMP on them 24/7 you will be pulling in about 3500 points per day, not a bad come back!
