I really know that most of the people here are mac fanatics when they actually endorse "Pages". It is the slowest, worst, piece of cr*p Apple ever produced. I have the UB iWork 06 version now and it still sucks!
Not everyone agrees, do they? Many Mac "fanatics" prefer Word. This one prefers Pages.

yeah, i totally understand what you're saying. android definitely does a lot more straight out of the box than the iphone does. but i guess for me, if i had an android device i'd really like to be able to flash some really cool builds and kernels a lot of the guys at xda-dev release (like we all used to do on the old winmo days) that way i don't have to worry when the manufacturer quits releasing updates after ~6 months and i get stuck on an old os. i just hate the fact those manufacturers are trying to prevent that type of community from doing their thing.
Well that's kinda hypocritical posting in an Apple forum. Apple tries 100x harder to prevent users from jailbreaking than Android\Manufacturers do try to prevent rooting\modding.
Either way, I like current technology, so I don't worry about updates after 6 months. I replace my computers every 6 months, and my phones as well. This was one of the reasons I defected from Apple's phones, got tired of waiting for a one-a-year product cycle for a phone that wasn't even the latest and greatest technology.

Geez, what defines one to be an analysts? These reports we have been reading recently are completely absurd.

sometimes apple is really good at advertising the same things the previous product already had but they make it sound like its a new feature..

I don't know if you are aware of this.... Can't you wait until June/July for the release of Final Cut Pro X (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/13/final-cut-pro-x-demo-nowhere-near-final-version-more-on-final-cut-studio-apps-coming/)? looking at the video demo (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/13/video-of-final-cut-pro-x-introduction-now-available/), it seem's awsome...
Not sure what shortcomings will the X version will have compared to the current FCP Studio, since the price difference is huge.
cheers!

I think it's also highly suspect that Bill Gates worked harder for his second $10 billion than his first.
Cap substantial income at $1Million per year. Plow the rest back into community. It would keep people semi-grounded in reality. You can be smart, you can do good things. The reward does not have to be monetary does it?
Premise: Capping income as described above would DESTROY the entrepreneur spirit. True or False? What is it that motivates human beings??

The point is, Apple needs to show labels that the ITMS is selling music in order to persuade the labels to sign and renew agreements. So if DVD Jon's SW, and other similar SW, weakens or cripples sales from ITMS then there is a problem.
I don't thing this will happen, however. As others have said, Apple's ease-of-use is one of their larger advantages. The richness of the ITMS, Apple's deep marketing pockets, etc, all play into the continued dominance of the ITMS.
Additionally, it will continue to be very difficult for any other company to kill Apple on price per track, as the labels are already pressuring Apple to bump the prices up. Newcomers will of course feel that same pressure.
I can only see this as a good thing for Apple. They don't make much, if any, money off of iTMS sales. They run the store at cost or near that to fuel the sale of iPods.

The VPN server is an AVM 7270 router/modem/voip box.
So you think she has to manually connect to the ip adress of my MacPro to be able to download files remotely?
How would I do this? Is it done in Finder somewhere?
In the Finder:
Menu Bar > Go > Connect to Server > Mac Pro IP or what ever the name of your machine is called Mac-Pro.local
And your done, might even bookmark it if you use it often.

I didn't think refurbs came in retail packaging, but I could be wrong. You could check ebay for what people will pay.

According to Michael Moore, in a recent interview with GritTV (http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/03/02/moore_on_wealthy_peoples_money_thats_not_theirs_thats_a_national_resource_its_ours.html), any wealth a rich person has earned is not actually theirs, it's a national resource, it's mine, it's yours...
I watched the video and don't think that's what Michael Moore said.
He's not saying that the money in Bill Gate's bank account is a national resource, he's saying the wealth generated by our economy is a national resource and that there have been intentional political and business decisions that have concentrated greater amounts of our economic wealth into the hands of the rich.
Don't you think that's true, 5P?

I will buy the MBA when it gets a backlit keyboard.
That's odd - they removed that? My previous gen MBA has a backlit keyboard.
BTW as far as the product's "evolution" goes - I think it's more likely that, as processor speed and power continue to increase far faster than peoples' needs do, buyers are beginning to realize that - practically speaking - a Core 2 Duo is more than enough computing power for what they do. Heck, we used to run Photoshop on G3 and G4 processors...

Why would they? The Intel models will run Windows anyhow. I don't think there would be much of a market for this product since the move to Intel is complete.

IMHO there is no reason to have a standard account if you will be doing administration of the computer. Standard accounts are good for users that are not to be allowed to install software or make other changes (such as children).
There are reasons to have two accounts, one that you use and another one (with admin privileges) that is kept around for diagnostic and recovery purposes. It can be a life saver if your user account gets hosed and you can't get logged in.

How does the MP3/M4A sound played in iTunes compared to played in Quicktime and opened in Audacity?
Well this is interesting. I opened all three (QuickTime, Audacity, and GarageBand) to compare the quality of one song. Now, all of a sudden, GarageBand plays the song normally without altering any sounds. You'll have to take my word on the fact that at one point it did convert the song and remove bass, which is strange, but it now works as it should! :D
Thank you for all your help, everyone!

No, they were out of all white 3g all carriers. They still had a few Verizon black ones though.
I'm pretty sure that they are selling out tonight, but good luck if you try for one tomorrow. They may still have black wifis.

I know some folks will say get a Windows machine for gaming, but I only keep one laptop which is my 11" Air because it is awesome for everything I do. Now that I got that out of the way, my question is what are some optimum resolutions for games like Metro 2033 and Crysis 2 that give you the best fps while maintaining the best sharpness and clarity while playing? When I use the default 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 resolutions built into these games, I always get black bars on the sides. I usually get 20-30 fps with these resolutions and games; however I would prefer to play with a full screen.

My roommate is a PC fanatic. He's an engineer, yet he still uses IE instead of Firefox for crying out loud. All of his purchased music is from MusicMatch, and he plays it on the cheapest player he could find.
He recently got a new computer and tried to get his MusicMatch songs to play on it. He has now devoted a couple hours every afternoon for 3 weeks to the project. In his weakened condition, I started showing him how my iTunes music could painlessly hop from computer to computer, and how if he used iTunes, he could stream all of my non-protected music. He was ready to cut his losses and switch to iTunes right there.
Unfortunately, iTunes songs won't play on his player so that was the end of it. There's no way he's paying more than $30 for a player, and there's no iPod that cheap. As a result, he'll never know how much better iTunes (and the rest of mac software) is. Apple had a chance to get their foot in the door, and instead they slammed his own door in his face.
The Shuffle is $79 and will not cost $30 anytime soon, so I guess he's lost anyway.
This was an example when the price of the hardware was limiting, not the iTS incompatibility.
